4THAUG14- One Hot Second by Stacy Gail

Synopsis:

Parker Radclyffe is up against a wall. Thorne Mansion, the mysterious Italianate castle she’s come to Texas to restore, isn’t the problem. No matter how intriguing the relic is, it’s merely an ember compared to the blazing magnetism of its owner, Chandler Thorne.

When his family mansion burned down, Chandler had to watch over a hundred years of proud history go up in smoke. After more than a year, he finally has everything in place to rebuild, including a renowned conservation architect to oversee the

restoration. But when he lays eyes on Parker he realizes he’s gotten more than he paid for. Maybe more than he can handle.

Parker is a military brat who never sits still long enough to get burned. Chandler is her opposite, a man with deep roots and deeper family secrets. It won’t be easy to find the common ground it takes to build a home together, but Chandler is a Thorne in every sense. He plans to stick with Parker until she sees that love is more than worth the risk.

 Review:

One Hot Second by Stacy Gail was a very good book. The story line is original. I have yet to read a book about putting down roots. Parker grew up a military brat. So to her putting down roots somewhere never crossed her mind until she took a job rebuilding a historical mansion in a small dusty south Texas town and met the owner.

Chandler is not only the owner of the mansion that Parker is rebuilding but he is also the owner and editor-in-chief of the towns only paper. He has left town and went to college in Chicago and moved back to takeover the paper. Before he moved back to Bitterthorn, Texas he was engaged. She didn’t want to live in a small town. So naturally things didn’t workout but the situation left a bitter taste in Chandlers mouth. So much so he became – for lack of a better term – a playboy. He of coarse isn’t really a playboy just very cautious and doesn’t do relationships.

A lot of history is uncovered and the town is all curious about everything because the mansion was built by the town founders. When things are uncovered the town finds out about the sordid past of the founders as well as others in the community. There is a mayor that has it out for the Thorne’s. Gossip, gossip, gossip. Just like any small town. Then, here is the attraction between Parker and Chandler. They are tested in different ways. However, Parker learns that putting down roots isn’t as bad as she thought when she tries to leave and Chandler learns when you find the  right person home is wherever they are no matter how much history you have in one town.

There is a love story but it doesn’t consume the story. There is just enough of the story that isn’t just the couple together. In other words there was a story to go with the couple falling in love at the same time. The love scenes didn’t overpower the story line. I loved that.

Meet the Author:

A competitive figure skater from the age of eight, Stacy Gail began writing stories in between events to pass the time. By the age of fourteen, she told her parents she was either going to be a figure skating coach who was also a published romance writer, or a romance writer who was also a skating pro. Now with a day job of playing on the ice with her students, and writing everything from steampunk to cyberpunk, contemporary to paranormal at night, both dreams have come true.

Review

You know the books that keep you awake till the early hours of the morning. Incandescent by River Savage was a ball-part 2:30am finish for me and I couldn’t have enjoyed and loved it more. Nix; a father, a friend, a prez and the outlawing badass smart mouthing male body of Incandescent made the pages weep with passion and love, which was so POWERFUL. Nix meets Kadence in a parent-teacher interview for his son Z. Like all smug cocky guys his intuition is to set the sassy and confident teacher in her place when Kadence retaliates with banter that made me laugh and love during reading.

“So you’re stubborn and sassy. I love a good chase,” he responds, not one bit deterred.

“It would be a pretty boring chase, like a dog chasing his tail.” I smile sweetly at him. The thrill of going back at him sends a swarm of butterflies through my stomach.” – Incandescent by River Sage.

The narrative flowed as rivalries resurfaced, the pain of the past was let go and raw emotion in Kadence and Nix was unleashed in a steamy, erotic form that will leave your panties wet. Incandescent is a new MC book by debut River Savage and I got to admit I am kind of in love with the vibe of how River tells MC narratives. A definite recommended read for those who love MC novels.

~Blog Tour Stop~ Pretty Instinct by S.E. Hall (Review/Excerpt)

Synopsis
“If opposites attract, then I am nothing. Because you, you are everything.”
There’s no easy road traveled to such an intense sentiment, one I never dreamt I’d feel….
But I also never planned on Cannon Blackwell climbing aboard my tour bus.
Review (4)

Pretty Instinct by SE Hall was a phenomenal read that touched on some gripping and emotional subjects. The support-fielded novel introduced Liz (or Lizzie/Elizabeth) into a world of taking chances. I really enjoyed this novel from SE Hall. I am new to her books but I found it a light read that was able to draw emotion and important issues from the characters. It had drama, heartbreak, sexy guys and the relationships that formed the novel were what kept me reading.

In a chance meeting after dumping Liz’s bands bassist she meets Cannon at a drop off spot. Oh boy doesn’t he change everything Liz had envisioned. It was sweet, it wasn’t rushed and the character felt relatable. As Liz’s main priority is her younger brother Connor. She will do anything to protect him. I found the support and the relationships and chemistry between the band mates and also her family to be really remarkable in the honesty and relating to real life situations. Liz is a strong women without a doubt, and it was great to see SE Hall create a character that through obstacles she will fight with all she can to protect her family.

Cannon changes so much and really stands for the good in men. It is about support, love, he definitely loves Liz’s feisty attitude. The novel really brought so many different dynamics that were great to read. The relationship that Rhett and Jarrett have in the bus dynamic of travelling musicians was great to develop through the narrative and I enjoyed reading it.

The soulful beauty of the novel would never have happened without Cannon and the support he embeds throughout the narrative. It is a story about growing up, letting go off the past and finding happiness. I truly enjoyed it. I can’t wait to read more from SE Hall.

Excerpt
“I can’t let a stranger on the bus with Bubs. What if he’s a mass murderer?” What if he’s not as pretty on the inside as he is on the outside?
“Ah, Mama Bear, run him through all the tests. You’re careful. And he might say we’re crazy and tell us to fuck off. Let’s ask before we worry about it.”
Biding my time, I chew on the inside of my cheek and look back, confirming Conner’s still tossing the Frisbee happily, Rhett watching him. “You asking or am I?” I sigh, hopefully masking the foreign tingle of anticipation working its way up my battered spine.
“He’s hetero, I can tell from here. I say we send in,” he flicks a finger back and forth between my boobs, “the big guns.”
“Don’t lick your lips!” I shove him, mouth agape. “You’re like my brother. That’s illegal in at least forty states, and gross.”
“You didn’t think it was gross when—”
“Enough.” I slap my hand over his mouth hastily. “I’ll go, but you stay right here and watch, closely. He makes a move for a weapon, dial 911 as you run to rescue me.”
“On it.” He grins at me, full of victory, a hint of his earlier teasing still lingering in his expression.
Girding my loins, I think, do women have loins and can they be girded or is that only a guy thing? Summoning my courage, I move with slow, hesitant steps in the miraculous unknown’s direction, reminding myself with each one that it’s for the boys, the band, the overall goal of staying the hell out of Sutton. And it is, but I’m kidding myself if I don’t admit I wouldn’t be this anxious if I was walking up to an ugly man. Or even a kinda good-looking man. Shallow much, Liz? Nah, I have no control over biological response.
Almost there now, his head lifts and turns at my approach, connecting eyes as sable brown as thick molasses to my own. He was tummy-turning enough far away. Up close, he’s better than photoshopped, a clear-cut case for Guinness Genetics. His lips are full, much plumper than my own, and he has a strong nose and jawline, both very masculine, the latter covered in a dark scruff. His hair is the same rich chestnut as his eyes, not too short, but definitely not too long. “Just fucked” hair (isn’t that what they call it?) be damned. He’s got “just fucked her and she had to hold on” locks, unruly in the most intricate fashion. The black boots at the end of long, thick legs are scuffed, faded jeans worn, well, and the long sleeved black thermal he’s wearing? Oh, he wears it, or rather, every muscle in his torso holds it up flawlessly.
Bottom line—he’s easy to look at.
“Are you a deranged serial killer and/or rapist?”
I like to open subtly.
“No, are you?” His timbre is deep and gravely, sending my vagina subliminal messages. Something along the lines of “yup, you want it.” With a voice like that, I’m praying he isn’t a chain smoker. To fuzz this perfect picture with the stench of an ever-present cloud of smoke would be one helluva slap in the face of the Almighty creator.
“No,” I answer too defensively, this instant, highly unusual attraction frying my staple “too cool to care” attitude that, up until right now, I’d like to think I pull off fabulously. “You any good?” I lean and point to the instrument on his back, brows bowed in questioning antagonism.
“Define good,” he deadpans, head down as he pulls the guitar off his back and puts it back in its case.
“Hendrix.”
“Not left-handed.” He shrugs as he straightens back up and captures my gaze.
“Page.”
He laughs, treating me to one seriously enlightening sound, accompanied by the sexiest blindingly white smile. “Then no, not even close to good.”
Damn, I should’ve gone with a mediocre guitarist! Now I’ve backed myself into a corner, Stranger Danger not giving me anything in the form of segue. Struggling, I shove my hands in my back pockets and rock nervously back and forth on my heels, forced to come up with another revealing yet seemingly aloof question.
“Why do you ask?” he rescues me.
“Our band.” I toss my head back toward the bus. “We need a bassist. And since you’re hitchhiking, I thought maybe—”
He drops down from his perch on the top edge of the bench and stands, well over six feet of sinister sex appeal stretching out before my eager eyes. “Do you know what a hitchhiker is?”
“What?” I shake my head to clear it and take a step back. “Yes, of course.”
“You sure about that?” He eats up the steps I’d retreated, placing his body close enough to mine that I can literally feel the battle of push and pull between us. “‘Cause where I come from, hitchhikers stand at the road, where you can see them. It increases their chances of actually landing a ride.” His left eyebrow curves up at one end and that same eye, I swear it, twinkles at me. “Seeing as how I’m sitting at the back of a desolate rest stop, I’m either the worst hitchhiker in history,” another step closer, “or you’re labeling me with the wrong tag.”

*This can be read as a standalone, but it is highly recommended that you read Beneath Your Beautiful to enhance your enjoyment of this book. Due to mature language and adult situations, this book is not recommended for readers under the age of 17.*

Between my heart breaking and the ouzel of charm from Brody, Begin Again by Tamsyn Bester was an exquisite read. I’ll put it out there I started this book at 7am and finished it at 9:20am. I did not for one second take a break or look up. It was astonishing and heartfelt beyond the words on the page. Tamsyn had me hooked at Beneath Your Beautiful and it was one of the first books I read as a reviewer, so Dem and Brody’s story got me up doing jazz hands when it arrived on my pretty little ipad.
It was an emotional rollercoaster. I’ll give it to your straight; Dem and Brody’s relationship developed, stretched, broke and flourished in so many different aspects that made reading a pure delight. I don’t like spoiling books, it’s not what I do, but let me tell you the issues the novel addresses are heartfelt and honest. It pulls and tugs on your heart in many shapes and forms. It was an extraordinary powerful read that can be felt beyond words. I felt like I experienced not only the character’s hearts but also Tamsyn’s heart. Her pure love for writing and the creation of Dem and Brody’s story was nothing short of beautiful and magic on my page. I rated it a 5 Lit Love, because it shot an arrow in my heart with emotion and raw passion.
P.S Brody Captured my heart. ❤

Brody’s mouth crushed mine and while my brain shouted at me to stop, my body responded the only way it ever would when it came to Brody. His tongue traced the seam of my lips and I opened up for him, allowing him to explore the contours of my mouth. His hand came to rest at my nape, while the other cupped my hip and pulled me closer to him. What we were doing was wrong, but I couldn’t rationalize it that way when my heart believed it was right.
Everything else around me disappeared as my blood started humming in my veins, making me feel feverish. Brody moaned into my mouth and in that moment it felt as if he was breathing life into me. I inhaled, swallowing his scent greedily, silently begging for more. But I knew more with Brody would never be enough. I’d learned that very early on. I had no doubt that his kiss alone made my panties wet and slick with desire. My breasts grew heavy and tender, aching for his touch. It had been so long and my body knew it. I experienced a total loss of control around Brody, which only made stopping that much harder. It was when his lips left a hot, moist trail down my neck that reality came crashing down. What was I doing? I pulled away, breathless with swollen lips.

EMERGE (Evolve Series #1) by S.E. Hall

On my own and out of my shell, I learn new things about life, friendship and…myself.

Like what you’ve always known may not be what you’ve always wanted.

Dane Kendrick awakened things within me that I never knew existed, unraveling and uncovering the real Laney Jo Walker.

I’m a NEW adult…so is my story.

REVIEW:

Falling head over heels is never easy. I find myself getting attached to too many book boyfriends. Well that’s exactly what I did again when I picked up Emerge by S.E. Hall, sorry guys. It was a bucket of raw emotions and I absolutely loved it. There are not too many books that can pull of the love triangle scenario and I absolutely loved the narrative and the written expression throughout Emerge. It was fast paced and really easy to read.

“Cheating is more than betrayal. It’s letting a selfish, physical need take over with blatant disregard for the other person’s feelings, as if they’re of now value.”

I absolutely loved Laney and Dane. It was so sweet and in so many ways it is realistic. There are so many relationship who try the long distance and lose their course because of the distance, like Evan and Laney. I absolutely admire S.E. Hall for taking on the narrative of going to college and experiencing meeting new people and life even if it terrifies you and your torn between different choices.

“Maybe it’s not about the length of time you’ve known someone; maybe it’s about instant recognition on an unconscious level. our souls know each other.”

The passion of the characters, the heart of the narrative and the joy of reading was so much to accomplish within the pages. I really felt like I was experiencing similar things to Laney (I’m 19 and in college), with her recognition of her feelings and how to approach it. I rated Emerge a 5 LIT LOVE and I definitely would recommend reading it.  I am excited to read Evan’s story.

Hook, Line and Sinker. One of my best reads so far of 2014 is Bender by Stacy Borel. I say love, I say romantic mouth-watering, I say Beyond rating and it doesn’t rate to how much I really enjoyed reading Bender. It was enchanting, emotion, pivotal breathtaking displaying a way to finding a voice when you don’t think you have one. Camden and Keegan’s romance is like electricity and water, by themselves they are stealth, together they go BOOM and shoot electricity and mouth-watering passion everywhere.

Camden and Keegan, when she is on the hunt of an apartment to live in whilst she is at college and let me tell you the tension and dynamic is of the charts. There chemistry maps passion, heart and over all sense of romance and learning to love. I was glued to my ipad. Couldn’t step away. Couldn’t sleep until I had finished. I think we all need a guy like Camden in our lives. He makes mistakes, there are kinships, kisses, gym equipment and Celine Dion involved. The feisty and loving narrative was such an amazing read that I didn’t want it to end. It was fun, but dealt with hard issues like bullying, single-parent houses and moving forward.

Overall, loved it to bites. The highlight for me with the linguistically enchantment of two characters who through all flaws, understand each other more than anything. Camden, stole my heart from the beginning with his charm. He had the total bad boy play but I still loved it. I rated this a BEYOND rating, because It was heartfelt, flowed brilliantly and had such great dynamic. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, sign me up already.

review

Pretending by Shanna Clayton was an enlightenment of refreshing and sizzling romances brought with adventure. After living together for 3 years at the wishes of late Hartland Wesley and Doll are roommates, there is mostly no interaction. Wesley and Doll have a routine, they avoid each other at whatever costs. What I love about this story is it analysis and develops very relative issues to current times. The narrative discusses love, self-esteem, loss and adventure in a wild-wind of debut novels.

The connection that Shanna created between Wesley and Doll was unique and special. I believe that teenagers today sometimes feel like they need to wear makeup to put a mask over the pain and I think in Pretending we see how Dolly is relatable to so many other college students and new adults. The adventurous knowledge of archeology was something that I was very intrigued with. Both Doll and Wesley have so much in common without realizing it. The narrative is filled with heart and pain but it also filled with the moments of strength and passion. I loved how Shanna created Doll and as well Charlotte her best friend as strong females. I love seeing books that put women in power and give them strength to fight battles that not everyone see’s. The romance between Wesley and Doll is so sweet, he see’s beyond her makeup mask and you may say unmasks the true Doll, who although vulnerable and has gone through heartbreak is an amazing character.

Overall, I loved Pretending by Shanna Clayton because of a few reasons, one being that it didn’t just go and they lived happily ever after it stayed true to the narrative within but didn’t leave anything unsolved. It was powerful that Shanna was able to involve archeology and the forge of a relationship between Doll and Wesley and it being honest, real and passionate. My rating is a BEYOND rating, because it was just such a special romantic read that I loved.

Review:

In the name of good and evil, reading A Time of Hope by T. Gephart was both torturous and heartwarming. After the events at the end of ‘A Leap of Faith’ I was all ready and prepared to enter into the mind of T and not all to well to accept that it was the final book in the Lexi Series.

I absolutely loved it from beginning to end, from start to finish it was just an amazing read. I have come to expect T to bring the characters of Lexi and Alex with so much passion and heart and she did not disappoint. In such an amazing book full with humour, pain, love and the band Power Station, it was a world-wind of fun to read. I have become addicted to Power Station (P.S I love Dan parts), Lexi and Alex and also the secondary characters like James and Hannah (so sweet). Like a good cup of coffee the novel was addictive and I couldn’t put it down.

In A Time for Hope we see Alex and Lexi rebuilding their relationship and connection from the events that have perspired and all I can say is, Lexi is one kick-ass chick. Her strength and ability to make me smile is what I have come to love. As far as female leads go she is one of the best, as she is determining, strong and full of love.

The sass, love and stamina within the book was beautiful. I love how it is upbeat and I never felt disconnected from the characters as Lexi and Alex’s novel came to an end I did get a bit teary but it was full of love because we have watched these guys grow from just strangers into something really special and raw. I rated A Time for Hope a fat BEYOND rating! It ticked all my boxes in what I love about romance, Power Station and the connection that T has created in her debut series.

About The Author

T GephartT Gephart is an indie author from Melbourne, Australia.

T’s approach to life has been somewhat unconventional. Rather than going to University, she jumped on a plane to Los Angeles, USA in search of adventure. While this first trip left her somewhat underwhelmed and largely depleted of funds it fueled her appetite for travel and life experience.

With a rather eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history, T struggled to find her niche in the world.

While on a subsequent trip the United States in 1999, T met and married her husband. Their whirlwind courtship and interesting impromptu convenience store wedding set the tone for their life together, which is anything but ordinary. They have lived in Louisiana, Guam and Australia and have travelled extensively throughout the US. T has two beautiful young children and one four legged child, Woodley the wonder dog.

An avid reader, T became increasingly frustrated by the lack of strong female characters in the books she was reading. She wanted to read about a woman she could identify with, someone strong, independent and confident who didn’t lack femininity. Out of this need, she decided to pen her first book, A Twist of Fate. She enjoyed the process so much that when it was over she couldn’t let it go.

T loves to travel, laugh and surround herself with colourful characters. This inevitably spills into her writing and makes for an interesting journey – she is well and truly enjoying the ride!

Based on her life experiences, T has plenty of material for her books and has a wealth of ideas to keep you all enthralled.

T self-published her first novel through Smashwords, is about to release her second novel on the same platform and is currently writing the third book in the Lexi Trilogy.

KissingEden

synopsis

Have you ever thought of taking a vacation alone? I mean step on a plane, check into your hotel, and lie on the beach completely and utterly alone. No? Me either, but then right before senior spring break I got dumped.

Something about break ups makes you do things you didn’t want to do, and try things you didn’t know you were capable of.

That’s how I ended up at the Palm Palace.

That’s how I met Grey.

That’s how my spring break turned into the most unforgettable week of my life.

review

The quaint intertwined love of a broken heart and a broken hotel ignites passion and romance in Kissing Eden by T.A Foster. In a charming and charisma filled novel, we were introduced to Eden and Grey as strong-willed passionate and loyal characters. Oh and isn’t Grey such a romantic name.  The narrative brought a Texas charm to Spring break with Eden escaping to a charming vacation hot spot and catching the eye of an exquisite irresistible man. When reading, I loved the dynamic that was created through the friendships that Eden created.

I feel like Kissing Eden is a very light-hearted book that dives into finding your own happiness and fighting for what you want. I really enjoyed reading about Grey because I imagined him all hot and sweaty with a little bit of a temper. Palm Palace is a mess and I think it is relatable to those who do get given the inheritance of a hotel or place and because of limited funds don’t know what to do.  I love how Grey had a lot of fight in him to start taking himself into consideration and doing things he wanted to do. Eden pulled a hurt hotel owner into a happier person.

Eden wasn’t without her own struggles, which I enjoyed seeing played out.  Eden came across as very fearless and if she set her mind to something she would accomplish it. I love that in a character. All the characters interacted with great chemistry. What could have been seen as cliché and stereotypical of the romance between Eden and Grey was a really enjoyable and light-hearted novel. The build up was an interesting delivery as this is the first book I have read from TA Foster and I enjoyed how she developed the characters. The fast pace of the book helped guide the book and I think it needed to be that way instead of drawn out longer.

Overall, Kissing Eden was a loveable, lighthearted sweet romance that brought flirt and heart into an intertwining narrative. I gave it a 4-Lit Love. I would definitely recommend it for someone looking for a nice sweet romantic summer novel.

T.A. Foster once spent a monthlong spring break on South Padre Island, where she soaked in the Texas sun, beach, and learned what real Texas country music is. Sometimes fiction does spring from reality.

She grew up catching rays and chasing waves along the North Carolina Outer Banks and now resides in the state with her adventurous pilot husband, two children, and two canine kiddos.

T.A. has an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a graduate degree in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University. When she’s not chasing her two-legged and four-legged children or trying to escape for date night, you can find her reading, writing, or planning her next beach trip.

*BOOK REVIEW* A Leap of Faith- T. Gephart

Today’s book review is by a rock star of romance and making me laugh. The amazing and ever brilliant T. Gephart’s  ‘A Leap of Faith.’

synopsisLexi is in uncharted territory as her steady relationship with Alex develops. Their passion shows no signs of waning, but the road is by no means easy. While Lexi loves Alex, she struggles to retain her individual identity while being a partner in a high profile relationship.

On her first international tour as Power Station’s publicist and Alex’s official girlfriend, Lexi is initiated into the crazy lifestyle of life of a rock-star.

Despite all the pressure, Lexi realises that their relationship is worth fighting for and she no longer wants to be alone. In order for her to move forward with Alex she needs to reconcile her past and exorcise some demons that she thought were best forgotten.

Is their love strong enough to survive the tests that family, distance and time provide?

reviewA Twist of Fate by T. Gephart introduced a world of fate, love, fight and music. I absolutely love T. and I was super excited to read the second book in the series titled ‘A Leap of Faith.’ In the second novel, in the series I really felt like the characters developed such admiration and love for each other. I really love how Lexi and Alex developed as both individuals and together. Although the couple doesn’t steer clear of complications with Marcy stepping on toes, the connection between Alex and Lexi enchanted a realism to relationships common to life.

What I loved about reading ‘A Leap of Faith’ was the characteristics of being in a real relationship, were you do have to trust and put faith in another person. It was connects and relates to feelings that project through Alex and Lexi’s narrative. Lexi gives you an overall sense that it’s OK to fall in love and take a chance in trusting someone as the novel progresses. Alex is as adorable and kind hearted as ever, I would like to point out. If I could wrap him up and run away with him I would.

I loved how in the second book of the series T. brought new twists and turns in Lexi and Alex’s story. T. was able to develop Lexi and Alex further than just the PR manager and guitarist in a relationship. The moments of love and support were the most enjoyable, as Lexi was thrown further into the music scene.

I loved the humor intertwined within the narrative, I had to stop to message a friend or talk to my family about it, just to tell someone how amazing it was. I really enjoyed the journey T. showed the reader and how Lexi and Alex have developed endearing love and devotion to each other. ‘A Leap of Faith’ explores mainly Alex and Lexi’s relationship, family dynamics and Lexi’s past. At the end you will probably have a book hangover, after the leaps and bounds that you experience in the sonnet of passion and love that is T’s Lexi Series Book 2. I absolutely loved it and I give it a 5- Lit Love because who am I kidding Alex stole my heart again. The dynamics of intertwining the good and bad in developing a relationship and yourself were like fireworks to the sky, in such a romantic read with a few ups and downs.
