“What I want is for you to want me like I want you!”

I clamp a hand to my mouth. Regret slaps me in the face.

Javier pulls my hand away. His stare takes in all of me. My eyes. My lips. I’m embarrassed by what I said. I’m embarrassed by my ridiculous heart, which thumps loudly, echoing his every touch.

“You want me, mami?”

Yes. In the deepest parts of my bones, yes.

Silence.

“Answer me.” His voice is demanding.

“No,” I say, stubborn.

A grin crawls across his face.

Cara’s POV

He closed the gap between us and was now so close he was pushing the limits of my personal space. Looking at me, he reached for my hand and pulled it away from my mouth. “You’re not a good liar, Cara.”

The warmth from his touch shot straight through to my core, awakening every nerve ending in my body, making goose bumps prick my skin. I prayed that he didn’t notice the reaction my body had to his simple touch but by the way he just grinned, I’m guessing he did. I turned my head to avoid him when he grabbed my chin and lifted it up. Firmly, he held it in place giving me no choice but to lock eyes with him. The pad of his thumb seductively brushed across my bottom lip and before I knew what was happening his lips were on mine. Releasing my chin, he slipped his hand behind my neck while his other hand wrapped around my waist and pulled me closer. I felt his tongue against my lips, asking permission to enter and I gave it to him. Swathing my arms around his neck, he entered with a desperate yearning and I accepted every reckless caress he gave.

As quickly as it started it ended. Cam pulled back, short of breath, and rested his forehead on mine. “So you forgive me then?”

I giggled, “Yeah, I guess so.”

“You guess so?” He said has he pulled back a bit. “Stop denying it, Firecracker, you know you can’t resist this,” motioning to his body as he grinned playfully, “I can tell by the way you react to my touch.” He slid his finger down my collarbone, leaving yet another trail of goose bumps in its wake. I hated the fact that he was right. Since the moment I saw him last night all I’ve been able to think about is him. Still, I wasn’t sure I was ready for any sort of relationship, my past was still lingering in the back of my mind and I wasn’t ready to face it. Trying to fight my body’s reaction I tensed up and opened my mouth to speak. “Shhh…” he said as he reached up with his other hand and cradled my face, tilting it to the side so he had better access. Tracing the deep v-neck of my shirt with his finger, he leaned down and whispered, “Relax, don’t deny it, just feel it.” Closing my eyes, I started to get lost in his touch.

I am a new adult contemporary author that is currently working on my first novel, Promise Me Always. I am a wife, mother of 2 amazing kiddos, photographer and owner at K23 Photography & Design, graphic designer and cover designer at K23 Designs, as well as an avid reader and blogger at A Book Whores Obsession! I have been married since 2004 to the most amazing man ever and together we have two amazing children.

I was born in Aurora, CO and still reside their today with my amazing family. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else in the world. I have become accustom to bi-polar weather living here and I absolutely love getting all four seasons (although winters could be a bit shorter.)

I have a small obsession with Starbucks and gummy bears! They make the perfect writing snack! Wine helps a lot too especially with the late night writing sessions. I love the summer and everything that goes along with it, camping, swimming, boating, hiking, etc. I love to travel and Disneyland is one of my family’s favorite places to visit together. I live in Iowa with my amazing, supportive husband. He is my rock and my king, and treats me like all women should be treated (like a spoiled Queen). I have two miniature dachshund’s that are my babies, and they love to keep me company when I am writing away on my next WIP.
I’m about to publish my 6th book, and can hardly believe how my life has changed. I’m called an author, and still can’t believe it. Some other info about me: I love my family, friends, wine, and anything caffeinated. I also love writing HEA. For the same reason I won’t watch a movie that I know will make me cry (with the exception of Steel Magnolias), I will never write a book without an HEA. There might be a few twists and turns, a cliffhanger or two, but ultimately my stories will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. For me, reading is entertainment, a way to escape this crazy insane world. If a book leaves me feeling sad, mad, or gut-wrenched, it is not for me. There is enough gut-wrenching sadness in this world, I don’t need to read about it too.
I started writing 3 years ago, and have no plans on stopping. So keep your eye on me, because with the help of some amazing people and my wonderful fans, this girl is going to be on the New York Times Best Seller’s list someday.

Everything happened so quickly. My hand encased hers, entwining our fingers in a protective move I couldn’t put into words. I didn’t stick around to hear anything else Nick decided to spit. I tugged on our joined hands and she, without question, followed me though the crowd towards the far corner of the bar where we were still close enough to the action yet able to be hidden from the fuckwit likes of Nick Edwards. My mind raced about what I could possibly say to explain my irrational actions. Since when had I become some knight in shining armor?

When we reached our refuge, I halted and dropped her hand. The moment I stepped back, I collided with a hard wall of Josh’s body, and over my shoulder, I found Josh staring at me with wide eyes. I tore my eyes from Josh and turned to find Eden, her friend, and Ashlyn awaiting my next move.

“Do something, dickhead. All eyes are on you after that little performance. You don’t go caveman and grab your woman and then just stand beside her like she’s a stranger.”

Josh was right. I looked back towards the corner of the bar and wasn’t surprised to find Nick and his crew watching with knowing smirks on their faces. Fuck. I had two choices. I could walk away right now, leave the bar knowing that I had done a good deed, and hope to Christ that she could take care of herself, or I could man the fuck up and finish what I’d started.

I pulled Eden firmly against me, wrapping my arms tightly around her waist so her back was flush with my chest. Resting my chin on her shoulder, I couldn’t help but notice how well her body molded to mine. She still hadn’t said a word. Her body was rigid in my arms, and after I heard her inhale sharply, she now held her breath.

“You’ve got to breathe,” I whispered into her ear.

Once again, she simply nodded. She trembled like a leaf in a hurricane against me. Her hands finally clutched my bare forearms, which were resting over her stomach. Her nails dug into my flesh, sending a shot of pain up through my arms, but I didn’t say a thing.

Her body wouldn’t stop trembling, and without hesitation, my grip tightened, trying desperately to pull her body closer to mine. She was completely breaking down in my arms and I didn’t know what the fuck to do, so I did what I hoped would calm her down.

I held on to her for dear life.

Cooper topped my wine glass again without
missing a beat.

I glanced sideways. “Are you trying to get
me drunk?”

He leaned in, whispering, “Yes. Is it
working? You seem a bit edgy.”

That was because my body was craving sex.
Lots of it. With Casey. A quick glance across the table found him watching our
exchange intently.

Between the revolving front door of the
duplex and his roommate, finding privacy was going to be more complex than long
division. He would either have to climb a ladder to my window or sex was going
to happen in the back of his car, and because he was yet to mention anything
about the damaged backseat, that option was off the table. The man was either
biding his time or he hadn’t seen it yet. Considering I was still alive, I was
voting for the latter, but it was only a matter of time.

Focusing on my plate, I picked up a piece
of chicken and peeled the skin away. “Can you pass me a napkin?” I asked Mac on
my left and licked my finger.

My phone vibrated in the pocket of my
dress as she handed it over. Pulling it out, I saw a text message from Casey. I
glanced at him across the table but he appeared in deep conversation with
Travis. Swiping a finger across the splintered screen, I read the message.

Do
that again.

Do what
again? Lick my finger? I put my phone down, and after a quick glance around the
table, I slid my finger in my mouth, sucking gently before dragging it slowly
from between my lips. Finished with the slightly erotic display, I glanced over
at Casey. His eyes were locked on my mouth, dark with hunger. Wincing slightly,
he reached down and with a quick, casual movement, adjusted himself in his
pants.

I quickly tapped out a return message.

Do
that again.

He did.

After reading my reply, he actually
reached down, cupped the bulge in his pants and squeezed. My entire body
clenched at the sight, forcing a light sweat to break out across my brow. I
reached for the wine Cooper poured, feeling the urge to rub the ice-cold glass
soothingly across my forehead.

After downing another half glass, I set it
down and caught Casey intent on his phone, his fingers tapping away.

This was sexting? How did people survive
it?

Mac was talking to me when my phone
eventually alerted the incoming message. After taking a bite of chicken, I
picked it up and promptly began choking.

If
my cock looks half as good as your finger did the way it slid in and out of
your mouth, then I want in.

Mac pounded me on the back with surprising
force while I choked and wheezed. Jesus.
The message basically said blow me now,
yet he’d managed to word in such a way that I was ready to get on my knees
right then and there. The man could charm the panties off a nun. I put my phone
down to grab at the napkin Cooper waved in my face. Casey sat across from the
table laughing at me while I dabbed at my watery eyes.

I narrowed my gaze on him with deliberate
intent before I tapped out another message.

You
said you were good with your tongue, Casey. Prove it.

Travis was talking to him when he opened
the message. I watched his eyes flare wide before he typed out a quick reply
and pocketed his phone.

Upstairs.
You’ve got five minutes.

 

I should’ve known better than to issue a
challenge to Casey of all people. He was the type of man you saw running
towards danger while everyone else was running in the opposite direction.

I utilised a good three
minutes eating another piece of chicken, finishing off my wine and getting
caught in conversation with Cooper. I spent another minute wondering what the
hell I’d gotten myself into. In the last minute left, I excused myself from the
table and stood on unsteady legs. I glanced behind me as I walked inside. Casey
was laughing at some comment Travis made that I didn’t quite catch. His eyes
met mine for a split second as he said something in reply, and they were on
fire. That was all it took to know I’d never wanted anything more in my life
than I wanted him right now.

His eyes were piercing in their
directness and I knew he wasn’t fooled by my attempts at sarcasm and
nonchalance.  My uncomfortable attraction to him, that had begun only a
few days before, practically oozed from my pours.  It was mortifying

And I knew I needed to shut this
down.  For both of our sakes. It wasn’t appropriate.  And he was
making me feel…disconcerted.

   “Well, I think the
group is going to be really helpful.  I’m sure you’ll get a lot out of
it,” I said lamely, hoping he got the point.  It seemed extremely
important to remind us both of who I was and what my role was in his
life.  I needed to reinforce where I belonged.  I was a counselor in
training.  Someone to guide him on a difficult journey.

 Nothing more.

  Maxx gave me a look that
was hard to decipher.  “I hope you’re right,” he said, running a dirty
hand across his face, leaving a smudge along the bridge of his nose.

 I had to clench my hand into a
fist in order to resist the urge to wipe it away.  And I knew there was
more than my OCD at work here.

   His words unsettled
me.  Was I reading a subtext that wasn’t there?  Or was he
purposefully communicating something that I had yet to figure out?

  My guess was the latter.

  He suddenly dropped his eyes
and I was surprised by the vulnerability that danced across his face.

   “I really hope
you’re right,” he said softly and I didn’t know whether the comment was for him
or for me. 

   I tilted my head at
him, looking at him closely.  He seemed lost in thought and I wondered
what had him so consumed. 

  I couldn’t help but be
curious about him. He made it impossible not to be.  He was obviously a
complicated man with a complicated past.  I was simultaneously intrigued
and annoyed that I was intrigued.

Because there was a definite line I
shouldn’t cross.  So why after meeting this man once was that boundary so
hard for me to remember?

mouth, then closed it again.  Then he looked at me and I watched as his
face smoothed over and any sign of openness was lost.
